An exciting opportunity for a Museums Manager to lead on the strategic and operational management of two museums showcasing Dudley’s rich history.

Dudley MBC Museums Services has two fantastic venues – Dudley Museum @ the Archives and The Red House Glass Cone, both locations also form part of the Black Country UNESCO Global Geopark. Our collections and exhibitions on our sites are varied, covering centuries of Dudley’s history and include geology, glass, fine art and archaeology.
The role
The Museums Manager will lead on the operational and strategic management of both the Red House Glass Cone (RHGC), a Grade II* listed and a Scheduled Ancient Monument, and Dudley Museum @ the Archives (DMAG). Responsibilities will include:
- Promoting the RHGC as a flagship visitor attraction within the Stourbridge Glass Quarter, to a local, regional and national audience.
- Promoting DMAG as the home of the Black Country UNESCO Global Geopark and Dudley’s unique collection of artefacts.
- Budget management and income generation for the sites including co-ordination of any external funding bids and working alongside the Council’s Leasing Officer to manage tenant studios at the RHGC.
- Line managing the Deputy Site Managers and Caretaking staff for the sites and to deputise for the Business Operations Manager, as and when required.
We are looking for someone who can work well under pressure and can work to tight deadlines and has excellent customer care skills. You will be flexible, possess a hands-on approach, be self-motivated, and have the ability to manage your own workload and those of others.
This post will require evening, weekend and Bank Holiday working (on a rotational basis). The successful candidate will be a key holder to all museum buildings and will be required to attend out of hours for emergency call outs.
