Operations Manager – Framework Knitters Museum
Hours: Part-time 30 hours/week, includes some weekend and bank holiday working

The Framework Knitters Museum is a small accredited, independent museum based in the Nottinghamshire village of Ruddington. Recently listed by The Guardian newspaper as ‘one of the best small museums in the country’, our historic site consists of three cottages, two frameshops and a chapel. Our site has for nearly 200 years been the home of industrious and creative families working in often harsh conditions to produce beautiful textile products. To this day, creativity and community focus remain at the core of what we do.
A recent successful National Lottery Heritage Funded development project has enabled the construction of a new shop, café and garden area. The trustees are now seeking a part-time Operations Manager to lead our team of staff and volunteers to capitalise on this exciting new development, with the aims of maximising the museum’s visitor numbers and driving our commercial activities.
The museum plays an active role in the local community through diverse programming; running craft activities, hosting wellbeing groups and artist’s residencies. The Operations Manager will play a key role in organising and overseeing these activities, as well as managing the shop, café and general day-to-day operation of the site.
Key job role duties:
- Hold overall responsibility the site, including opening/closing
- Manage staff and volunteers, including organising rota
- Recruitment of new volunteers
- Manage the shop and cafe, including sourcing suppliers, ordering and maintaining stock, bank takings
- Ensure safe operation of the site, including food safety compliance
- Maintain and build community partnerships and participation
- Organise events and programming
- Support the marketing and promotion of the site
Person specification:
- Candidates must be able to show prior experience in running front of house operations in a visitor attraction or museum
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong commercial awareness
- Able to motivate and lead a team
- Well organised, flexible and reliable
Hours: Part-time 30 hours/week, includes some weekend and bank holiday working
Salary: £12/hr
Term: Permanent contract
