Production Skills Manager – Coldharbour Mill

Protecting Heritage, one of the UK’s oldest wooden mills is seeking a Production Skills Manager.
This role will be pivotal in helping us safeguard the heritage spinning and weaving skills of the past 225 years and keeping them alive for generations to come.
The successful candidate will need to have experience in textile & yarn production as well as experience developing and delivering mentoring and supporting apprentices, work placements and our volunteer team. They will also develop our processes to improve and redesign production at the Mill, creating new products for retail sale and keeping our heritage machines maintained. Full support and additional training available.
Job Purpose
To work with the Coldharbour Mill Team to the benefit of Coldharbour Mill, specifically:
- To coordinate, implement and supervise continued textile production at Coldharbour Mill including the Heritage Production skills training programme
- To develop and deliver a heritage production skills programme for Coldharbour Mill; these programmes will include management of two apprentices, work placements, volunteers & workshops.
- To safeguard the continuity of spinning and weaving skills of the past 225 years.
- To lead the production team by creating inspiring experiences for our visitors and volunteers aiding in the skill sharing process.
- Maintain the production machinery at Coldharbour Mill, maximising use of machines for demonstration and training
- To develop textile production at Coldharbour Mill including running production days overseeing work of apprentices and volunteers and planning all textile & yarn production.
- To manage the Health & Safety of the Factory Floor, production processes and associated areas ensuring our staff, volunteers and visitors’ safety is at the forefront of our work.
- To manage textiles and wool development, design and production for retail sale.

Hours of work: This can be a Full-time role, but job share and part-time also available. Shorter days or annualised hours would also be considered to work around candidates’ personal circumstances– we aim to be as open a flexible as possible with how we approach this role. Core working hours would be between 10:30am-3:30pm on weekdays. Occasional weekend/bank holiday work based on the Events programme of the Mill, which will be agreed in advance with the CEO’s Office.
Salary: £27,500-£32,000 FTE per annum dependant on experience.
