The Organisation

The Royal Parks (TRP) is a charity created in March 2017. We manage over 5,000 acres of diverse parkland, rare habitats and historic buildings and monuments in eight Royal Parks across London. These are Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James’s Park, The Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park and Bushy Park.

We also manage other important public spaces including Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Our eight Royal Parks and other iconic green spaces are among the most visited attractions in the UK with 77 million visits every year.

The Green Futures project aims to connect secondary school students with the Royal Parks through experiences that give them a taste of what it’s like to work in and care for these precious places.

We are now looking for a Project Officer to join our team on a part-time basis, working 28 hours over four days per week, for a fixed term contract until 30th September 2025.

The Role

As the Project Officer, you will plan, co-ordinate, deliver and report on all elements of the Green Futures project.

You’ll be working alongside secondary school aged children, equipping them with knowledge of the natural world, heritage and well-being. Creating meaningful, lifelong learning experiences, you will help participants to understand and engage with our Parks, ultimately supporting our activities and our mission.

Inspiring young people, you’ll forge programmes that are unique for each school, offering workshops and conservation days that initiate ideas and a love of nature in students.

Additionally, you will:

  • Develop an annual programme
  • Run workshops and conservation days
  • Write and update risk assessments
  • Co-ordinate and purchase kit
  • Ensure the safe use of equipment

About You

To be considered as a Project Officer, you will need:

  • Proven experience of delivering outdoor environmental education to secondary school students
  • Project management experience
  • Experience of practical conservation work
  • In depth knowledge of ecology, natural heritage and outdoor learning
  • An awareness of safeguarding
  • To be highly organised
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
