Curator

This really is an exciting time to take on the role of Curator here. In the next eighteen months we’ll have the best knowledge of our whole collection to date, and urgent work to stabilise the environmental conditions in the galleries will have been completed.

Supported by a Collections Registrar with excellent knowledge and management of the collection, and a Curatorial Technician to help create striking temporary displays – you’ll be able to use your creativity and interpretation skills to huge advantage and impact.

Curatorial Technician

This new role will work on several different curatorial tasks to make sure that the museum collection is cared for and shown to the highest standards. The Curatorial Technician will work with the Curator on monitoring and responding to the environmental conditions in the galleries and undertake some integrated pest management work too. They’ll work with volunteers to carry out conservation cleaning in the galleries, including management and development of the outdoor gallery areas. The skills they bring and develop within the role will ensure that collection items are transported, handled, and displayed to minimise irreversible damage.

Collections Registrar

This new role will initially manage a project involving a team of trained volunteers to audit all the museum’s collection. We hope this will be finished towards the end of 2022. The audit will help the museum take a strategic approach to the ongoing acquisition and disposal of items, together with management of loans. The Collections Registrar will be key in reporting on the nature of the collection to help with decision making. On an ongoing basis, this role will manage the knowledge of the collection: its movements, recording and storage. This will enable the Curator to use the collection dynamically to create themed changing displays throughout the gallery. It’ll also enable both a museum-led and user-led curation of online collections.

Community, Learning and Volunteering Manager

This new role is focused on bringing people close to the museum and its themes – and providing them with engaging and meaningful experiences. We want to amplify the voices of communities within the museum’s galleries, sharing their perspectives on the collection and stories we hold. We’d like to inspire people exploring the galleries – whether it’s for a formal education visit or as part of a leisurely day out in the area. We’ve begun reviewing the options we offer for school visits, taking into consideration current conversations in education as well as opportunities for environmental action, wildlife protection and increased wellbeing.

Duty Manager

You will meet and welcome our visitors and help them get the most from their visit. The front of house team plays a vital role in our visitors’ experience, and your enthusiasm and knowledge is very important. Visitor safety is very important to us, and Duty Managers play a key role in the evacuation of the building should the need arise.

Visitor Operations Manager

Managing the Front of House team department, you will oversee the meet and welcome our visitors and ensure your team help them get the most from their visit to us. The front of house team plays a vital role in our visitors’ experience, and your enthusiasm and knowledge in leading this is very important. Visitor safety is very important to us, and all Duty Managers play a key role in the evacuation of the building should the need arise. The onsite management of venue hire bookings you are the point of contact on these days to ensure events run smoothly. A major focus of the role is compliance, communication, consistency and collaboration.
