Retail & Visitor Services Assistant – United Grand Lodge of England
Salary: £21,000
Hours: 3 days per week

United Grand Lodge of England are looking to hire an assistant to work 3 days per week across the award-winning shop at Freemasons’ Hall and the Visitor Services Team that provide the front-of-house operation for the Museum of Freemasonry.
Purpose of the Job
The purpose of the role is to provide excellent customer service and maximise sales within the retail and visitor services departments.
To have general responsibility for the smooth running of all retail areas, including internet sales orders. To support customers with sales enquiries and process purchase transactions. To provide front-of-house assistance to museum visitors, sell and distribute digital tours and field general museum-related enquiries.
Key Responsibilities
Retail
- Support the team to achieve monthly and annual targets. This includes sales budgets, customer service standards and visual merchandising standards.
- Deliver outstanding customer service, building a rapport with every customer to create a personalised and outstanding service.
- Responsible for shop floor replenishment and ensuring the store is clean and tidy.
- Fulfil internet orders; accurately pick and pack items for external dispatch.
Visitor Services
- Provide a warm welcome, communicating key information.
- Answer Museum visitors’ questions and engage them with the collections.
- Opportunity to deliver guided tours.
- Proactively encourage digital tour sales and monetary donations.
- Ensure the Museum Welcome Area is well stocked, clean and presentable.
- Invigilate Museum galleries and assist library users.
- Work with colleagues to ensure the safety and security of colleagues, visitors and collections and understand fire evacuation procedures.
- Light cleaning duties as required.
- Additional project work as required, which may be collections or retail based.

Salary
£21,000 – £22,000 (pro rata salary £12,600 – £13,200 based on 3 days per week) plus the following benefits package:

Hours
The successful applicant is required 3 days a week (21 hours). The availability to work on Saturday is essential. Occasional working on evenings to cover special events and monthly late night Museum opening.
