Visitor Welcome Manager – Gloucester Cathedral
Salary: £28,532
Hours: 35 hours per week
Term: Fixed term for 18 months
Location: Gloucester Cathedral
Closing date: 9:00 am 13 September 2021
Come and be a part of 1000 years of living history
Gloucester Cathedral is one of the most significant heritage destinations in the South West. A historic place of worship with origins that date back over 1,300 years, we remain open for everyone, 365 days a year. A living breathing building full of activity, in 2019 we welcomed over 400,000 visitors from all over the world. We hold hundreds of events every year, ranging from skate parks and major exhibitions, to Christmas markets and classical music concerts. During the past few years we have completed the first phase of a once-in-a-generation project to develop the site into a 21st Century Cathedral. We are now on the road to recovery post the covid 19 pandemic and are optimistically looking ahead to the next phase of development.
This is where you come in. As Visitor Welcome Manager you will be responsible for the front of house team who are the public face of our Cathedral and it will be your role to ensure that every aspect of our visitor experience is meaningful for everyone who comes through the door. As a charitable organisation that receives no state funding, we have to work hard to raise funds so that we can continue to care for the building and our heritage. Your role will play an essential part in this as you focus on combining a world class welcome with generating income from our visitors.
We are looking for candidates who are experienced in leading a team and managing performance. A good grounding in a busy visitor facing operation is essential and applicants must have a proven track record of daily floor management and championing exceptional customer service. To make a success of this role, you must have excellent organisation skills, a high level of resilience, an eye for detail, a working knowledge of best practice visitor engagement and experience. The ability to build good relationships is vital and you will also be responsible for supporting large teams of volunteers whilst managing change.
Responsibilities will include overseeing presentation of the Cathedral floor, the smooth running of visitor facing operations (particularly guided tours and group visits), the collation of visitor feedback and income data, and the production of visitor information and signage. Building on our existing award winning interpretation scheme, you will be required to develop innovative approaches to sharing the Cathedral’s heritage and to implement ways of enhancing our visitor offer to drive footfall, repeat visits and income.
This post will include regular weekend (usually every other) and occasional evening work.
Closing date is 9am on Monday 13 September 2021
Interviews will take place on Friday 1 October 2021
