Volunteer and Membership Coordinator – Cromford Mills

Job Title: Volunteer and Membership Coordinator
Salary: £21,418
Hours: 3.5 days a week
Term: Two year fixed term contract
Location: The Arkwright Society, Cromford Mills, Mill Lane, Derbyshire DE4 3RQ
Closing date: 11:00 pm 23 March 2023

We have an exciting opportunity for a volunteer and membership co-ordinator who will take a key role in the support and development of our volunteer and membership offer for both the Arkwright Society based at Cromford Mills and the Belper North Mill Trust, based at Belper North Mill.   This role is being supported by the Heritage Fund.

Both The Arkwright Society and Belper North Mill Trust are registered charities, working together to ensure the important stories and heritage significance of Cromford and Belper Mills are kept alive and celebrated in this part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.  Following the closure of the Belper North Mill museum in September 2022, the Trust and Belper Volunteer Association will maintain a presence in Belper through volunteering opportunities, guided tours of the Belper Mills area and educational outreach.  A new temporary exhibition of some of the cotton spinning objects from Belper will be developed at Cromford Mills.

Cromford Mills, about 8 miles from Belper, is a large site with a visitor exhibition including the award-winning Arkwright Experience, a business centre, catering, and a busy events and conferencing programme. We have an award-winning educational offer for schools and a very enthusiastic and involved volunteer team, who help deliver the visitor heritage offer.  All these activities create a beautiful, unique and vibrant place to work.

We are looking for candidates with excellent communication and engagement skills to support the volunteers and members across both sites.  Successful candidates will demonstrate their skills, experience and enthusiasm to help grow our volunteer and membership offer and broaden our engagement in both places.

The successful candidate will be employed by The Arkwright Society, who offer competitive terms and conditions.  The role is primarily based in the beautiful village of Cromford which has good transport links and a strong sense of community. The Arkwright Society is proud to be an equal opportunities employer and would welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and cultures.
