On Saturday 22 February, AIM member Chasewater Railway Museum welcomed their 150,000th visitor since they commenced recording accurate visitor numbers in 2010. The museum opened in its current site in 2004, but did not start to record visitor numbers until 2010.
Mr Robert Neal and his family from nearby Walsall Wood were welcomed by David Bathurst, Chairman of the museum, and presented with a certificate, a souvenir Chasewater Railway mug, and a local railway mining history book. Although Mr Neal and his family had visited the railway before, this was their first time in the museum.
“We are of course aware that the larger museums attract such visitor numbers over very short periods indeed. They are of course operating under quite different circumstances – we are officially open when the heritage trains are running, but we also attract small levels of interest on those days when our museum team meet up on a social basis. Nevertheless, for our modest museum it is a major achievement and a significant milestone. We are unashamedly proud of it.”
