Middleton Hall Trust

Job Title: Chair / Treasurer / Trustee

Location: Middleton Hall Trust, Warwickshire

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Middleton Hall Trust achieves its core purpose – ‘To restore, protect and bring Middleton alive so that every visitor leaves with a deep love of its story’.

They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Middleton Hall Trust has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support the staff and volunteers to enable Middleton Hall to grow and thrive.

Chair of Trustees

We are looking for a Chair who can provide leadership to the Board, ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for governance and oversight; someone who can lead in an inclusive way, supporting the board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the General Manager. The Chair is also an ambassador for the charity.

As Chair of the Board of Trustees you would be leading a Board of dedicated individuals who bring their varied skills and experience together to ensure the effective administration of the Trust. Our Trustees develop and implement Middleton Hall’s operations, governance, finances and bid applications in partnership with its small number of staff and a large group of passionate volunteers.

We are looking for someone with previous Trustee experience who has strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. They must have an awareness of strategy, delivery and an understanding of good governance practices and be willing to get involved and want to apply their skills, expertise, enthusiasm and knowledge to the Trust.

As a small charity, there will be times when the Chair will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which they have special expertise.

Treasurer

We are looking for someone who can fulfil the duties of a Trustee and maintain an overview of Middleton Hall’s financial affairs as its Treasurer. The Treasurer would ensure that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and report to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.

This would require someone who is, ideally, a finance professional. A knowledge of charity finance would be an advantage although an enthusiasm to learn, drawing on sound commercial experience would be acceptable too.

The Treasurer would have a responsibility to present budgets, management accounts and financial statements to the Board; ensuring that proper records are kept. They would monitor and advise on financial stability, oversee financial controls and advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process

In addition, the Treasurer will have the responsibilities and qualities of all trustees. They will support Middleton Hall’s core purpose and oversee its financial plans. They provide effective, efficient administration of the Trust, contribute to the broader promotion of Middleton hall by applying their skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.
