As part of a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant we are recruiting a Collection Engagement Officer to join us on our journey to restore and safeguard Gregynog, an iconic historic house, as Wales’ most welcoming home for nature and art.

Background

Gregynog is internationally famous as the former home of renowned art collectors, public benefactors and sisters, Gwendoline and Margaret Davies, whose social, political and cultural influence was felt across the world in the 20th century. Committed to peace and progress, ‘Gwen and Daisy’ shared the ambition for everyone to benefit from engagement with and access to Wales’ rich culture and outstanding environment. This ambition remains the beating heart of Gregynog today.

Gregynog Hall, and its 750acre estate, has since 2019 been owned by Gregynog Trust a registered charity. The Grade II* listed hall and Grade I listed gardens sit within an extensive landscape setting, at the heart of rural mid-Wales. The Hall and estate, including agricultural land, woodland, National Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), offer a welcoming setting for everyone to stay, discover, experience and be inspired. It is a place where magic happens and where the Trust aims to create Wales’ most welcoming home for creativity, nature and the arts.

Raise the Roof! project

Raise the Roof is a ~£5 million capital project. The capital works programme focusses on the urgent and critical repair of the Gregynog Hall roof which is nearing the end of its useful life. Alongside the capital works, the project invites people to engage with the remarkable story of the Davies Sisters at their former home, through their collections, and within Gregynog’s outstanding natural surroundings.

Funding has been secured from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Architectural Heritage Fund, Pilgrim Trust and Historic Houses Association to support the project’s £961,591 Development Phase and we are now building our project team.

Role description

The role will support and develop the reputation of Gregynog as a thriving centre for the arts, creativity and nature. It will be a key role in increasing the visibility of and access to Gregynog and its collection and supporting the delivery of The National Lottery Heritage Fund funded Raise the Roof project.
