We are recruiting new Trustees to:

  • Strengthen the Board’s skills and experience
  • Support the development and delivery of a new strategy
  • Broaden the diversity and perspectives of the Board
  • Contribute to fundraising, partnerships and profile.

We are recruiting new Directors of the Museum’s trading subsidiary similarly to strengthen the Board’s skills and experience and to broaden diversity and perspectives.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in:

  • Artistic practice
  • Historic house and museum curation and activation
  • Building development, capital projects, or environmental sustainability
  • Communications, marketing, digital and broadcast
  • Academic and research expertise (psychoanalysis, psychotherapy or related fields)
  • Fundraising, philanthropy or development.

We are also interested in candidates who could contribute to the governance of Freud Museum Enterprises (FME), particularly in:

  • Commercial strategy
  • Digital/audience development
  • Retail, licensing or visitor economy experience.

We recognise that an individual might bring a combination of these skills. If applicants bring skills to one, two or even three of the role specifications in this pack, they should make that clear when applying. 

Additional information

Number of meetings per annum/time commitment:

The Board meets five times per year. Committee and working group participation may also be required, as will attendance at occasional Museum events and stakeholder engagement. Being a Trustee has an estimated time commitment averaging 8-10 days per year, but additional time is welcome. Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term, which is renewable twice.

The Board of Directors of FME currently meets twice per year. Attendance at occasional Museum events is also welcomed. Being a Director of FME has an estimated time commitment averaging 4-5 days per year, but additional time is welcome. Directors are appointed for an initial three-year term, which is renewable twice.

Roles are unpaid, with reasonable expenses covered.
