West House is located in Pinner Memorial Park and is steeped in history. Once the home of the grandson of Admiral Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton, the house and its grounds were purchased by the people of Pinner after the second world war. Today West House is a thriving community amenity, housing the Heath Robinson Museum, Daisy’s café and the Verden Event Rooms offering a broad range of events and activities. We are run by a highly skilled and motivated team including our fabulous body of more than 100 volunteers.
However, it costs approximately £300,000 per year to run the Museum and it receives no government or local authority funding. While we raise funds through ticket admissions, rental income and retail income, we urgently need to increase voluntary income through grants, sponsorship and donations. Experienced fundraising consultants have created a three-year fundraising strategy and have been engaged to deliver it, but we need to support this work with relevant fundraising and financial expertise.
We are looking to take on board two new Trustees, as we are ambitious about our future and are looking to build our skills in areas that will be key to our success.
In particular we are looking for Trustees to help develop us in two key areas:
- Fundraising – like many small museums, fundraising is a high priority for us and we are looking for someone who is passionate about fundraising to help us to deliver our strategy. This will involve working across key areas including Trusts and Foundations, Individual Giving, Corporate Donations, and with Friends of the Museum, staff, volunteers and fundraising consultant to increase income. We are looking for someone with strong networking skills (as well as a network to reach potential donors) who is highly experienced in fundraising to join our trustee board.
- Finance – we are looking for a trustee to help our Treasurer with managing our finances and ideally we are looking for someone with a relevant financial qualification.
Number of meetings per annum/time commitment:
3-4 trustee meetings per annum; plus 2 days per month for Fundraising, or half a day per week for Finance.
Daytime or evening meetings: Normally daytime + weekend. Often hybrid.
