Welsh museums accessibility project – access audits

Publish date: 19 Nov, 2025

In partnership with the Welsh Government, Direct Access Ltd Consultancy is pleased to offer an opportunity for local and independent museums to receive free support with accessibility audits and training sessions that will help to build knowledge and improve access for all.

The project is free of charge and available to accredited museums, those currently working towards accreditation, or museums submitting Museum Accreditation Scheme returns before December 2027.

Participation in the project directly supports the Arts Council UK Museum Accreditation Scheme, specifically Accreditation Standard 2018, Section 7, which focuses on users and their experiences, and making museums accessible to the public.

About the project:

The project will be running between November 2025 and March 2026.  Participating museums will be instrumental in supporting Direct Access Ltd Consultancy to test and develop a new self-auditing toolkit for use by the wider sector, as well as be supported in developing effective Access Policies and Plans.

As a result of participating in the project, museums will gain a deeper understanding of potential accessibility barriers and develop informed plans to enhance physical, sensory, and intellectual access to their buildings and spaces. The knowledge gained will help your museum become more accessible for disabled people and ensure that you are aware of your legal obligations under statutory legislation such as the Equality Act.

As part of the project, you will have access to:

  • The co-design of a bilingual auditing toolkit that will assist museums with identifying and removing access barriers.
  • Free on-site mentoring with an Accessibility Consultant.
  • Free 1:1 support on best practices and the development of Access Policies and Plans.
  • Access to two free online training sessions.
  • The potential to be a case study for the project.

Who is eligible:

To be eligible for this programme, you must be a Local or Independent accredited museum or working towards accreditation in Wales.

Museums that have previously undertaken accessibility audits will be considered.

Multi-site organisations must specify one venue only to receive an accessibility audit.

If housed within a building owned by another organisation, museums can still apply.

How to apply:

Museum types across the sector are encouraged to apply. Approximately 10 organisations will be selected to participate. The selection process will aim to include museums of varying geographic location, governance type, size, and ensure equal opportunity for volunteer-led organisations.

To submit your application, please complete the form at https://forms.office.com/e/0nq67nrymB

The closing date for applications is Friday, the 28 of November, 3:00 pm.

If you encounter any issues with accessing the form or would like further information about the project, please contact [email protected].

We will confirm receipt of your application within two working days. If you do not receive an acknowledgement of receipt from us, please get in touch with us.

Mae’n bleser gan Direct Access Ltd Consultancy, mewn partneriaeth â Llywodraeth Cymru, gynnig cyfle i amgueddfeydd lleol ac annibynnol dderbyn cymorth am ddim drwy gael sesiynau hyfforddi ac archwiliadau hygyrchedd a fydd yn helpu i ddatblygu gwybodaeth a gwella hygyrchedd i bawb.

Mae’r prosiect yn rhad ac am ddim ac mae ar gael i amgueddfeydd sydd wedi cael achrediad, y rhai sy’n gweithio tuag at achrediad, neu amgueddfeydd sy’n cyflwyno adroddiad Cynllun Achredu Amgueddfeydd cyn Rhagfyr 2027. Trwy gymryd rhan yn y prosiect, bydd amgueddfeydd yn cefnogi Cynllun Achredu Amgueddfeydd Arts Council UK yn uniongyrchol, ac yn benodol Safon Achrediad 2018, Adran 7, sy’n canolbwyntio ar ddefnyddwyr a’u profiadau, ac ar wneud amgueddfeydd yn hygyrch i’r cyhoedd.

Gair am y prosiect:

Bydd y prosiect ar waith rhwng mis Tachwedd 2025 a mis Mawrth 2026.  Bydd yr amgueddfeydd sy’n cymryd rhan yn gwneud cyfraniad hollbwysig i gefnogi Direct Access Ltd Consultancy i dreialu a datblygu pecyn cymorth hunan-archwilio newydd i’w ddefnyddio gan y sector ehangach, yn ogystal â chael eu cefnogi i ddatblygu Cynlluniau a Pholisïau Mynediad effeithiol.

O ganlyniad i gymryd rhan yn y prosiect hwn, bydd amgueddfeydd yn datblygu dealltwriaeth ddyfnach o’r pethau sy’n gallu rhwystro hygyrchedd a byddant yn datblygu cynlluniau deallus i wella mynediad corfforol, synhwyraidd a deallus pobl i’w hadeiladau a’u gofodau. Bydd y wybodaeth a ddysgwch yn helpu eich amgueddfa i ddod yn fwy hygyrch i bobl anabl ac yn sicrhau eich bod yn ymwybodol o’ch goblygiadau cyfreithiol o dan ddeddfwriaeth statudol fel y Ddeddf Cydraddoldeb.

Yn rhan o’r prosiect hwn, bydd cyfle i chi wneud neu dderbyn y canlynol:

  • Cyd-gynllunio pecyn cymorth archwilio dwyieithog a fydd yn helpu amgueddfeydd i adnabod a newid pethau a allai rwystro hygyrchedd.
  • Mentora am ddim ar y safle gan Ymgynghorydd Hygyrchedd.
  • Cymorth 1:1 am ddim gydag arferion gorau a gyda datblygu Cynlluniau a Pholisïau Mynediad.

I fod yn gymwys ar gyfer y rhaglen hon, mae’n rhaid i chi fod yn amgueddfa Leol neu Annibynnol wedi’i hachredu neu fod yn gweithio tuag at dderbyn achrediad yng Nghymru. Rydym yn barod i ystyried amgueddfeydd sydd wedi cael archwiliad hygyrchedd o’r blaen.

Mae’n rhaid i sefydliadau sydd ar fwy nag un safle enwi un safle yn unig i dderbyn yr archwiliad hygyrchedd.

Os yw’r amgueddfa o fewn adeilad sy’n eiddo i sefydliad arall, mae hawl ganddi wneud cais o hyd.
