Trustee vacancy – Royal Crown Derby

The Royal Crown Derby Museum Charitable Trust is seeking to recruit a new chair to the board of trustees to  help guide them towards an ambitious new future.

History

There has been a museum on the site of the Royal Crown Derby factory since 1967. The museum is an independent charity with an independent board; however we work in close partnership with the manufacturing business and have a positive ongoing relationship with them which we aim to build on and cement during the next phase of our development.

Royal Crown Derby, one of the UK’s most iconic porcelain brands, began life in 1750 and in currently situated 10 mins from Derby city centre. The current factory was opened in 1878 and is currently a family business employing just over 50 people and using traditional techniques to manufacture high quality items.

Having survived the pandemic thanks to generous support from the factory and having been enabled to reach new audiences thanks to funding from AIM, NLHF and ACE we are now looking at the next stage of our growth. It is our intention to seek significant funding to enable us to invest in and redevelop the site into a first class visitor experience .

Charitable Objects

The objects of the charity, which is constituted as a CIO, are the advancement of public knowledge, appreciation and awareness in respect of porcelain, china pottery, earthenware and ceramics of any other kind of artistic, historic, scientific or cultural interest (“ceramics”) and in particular in respect of Royal Crown Derby products.

The museum is a registered charity (1179781).

The Museum is an accredited museum with a collection of just over 4,000 items most of which are porcelain. The museum also cares for and catalogues the RCD Osmaston Road archive, although this is not part of the museum’s formal collections.
