The BBC would like to let you know about the Civilisations Festival: an exciting partnership between museums, libraries and galleries and the BBC to coincide with the broadcast of BBC Arts’ Civilisations series on BBC TWO in Spring 2018.
The Festival – from Friday 2nd March to Sunday 11th March – will be a showcase of ideas and events designed to engage a culturally curious audience across the UK. There’s more information about the Festival and what’s on offer to museums, libraries and galleries, including details of how to sign up in a previous AIM post HERE.
The BBC are holding a Civilisations Festival Digital Workshop in Northern Ireland on Monday 20th November at the Ulster Museum in Belfast, from 2-4pm. The workshop will be a unique opportunity for you to see the digital tools in action on offer to Festival Partners.
It will explore ideas about how they could be used to create digital experiences (including showcasing items from your collections) to accompany Civilisations Festival activity. You’ll be able to see examples of the tools, hands on demonstrations and practical advice on how they could be used by your organisation for storytelling and more.
These are free workshops run by the expert staff from the BBC’s digital Research and Development teams. People with all levels of expertise are welcome.
If you or colleagues would like to come along please email [email protected] with ‘Civilisations’ in the subject field to reserve a place.
Details of how to get to the venue, and facilities are here:

As they’ll feature items from your collections, the BBC would encourage colleagues who have practical experience of curation, those involved in digital programme activities and digital experts who will be using the tools to come along.
One of the tools on offer is an augmented reality app to showcase items from collections around the UK. Find out more about this amazing new project in the video below!
