Imperial War Museums

Imperial War Museums (IWM) wishes to appoint three new Trustees. The first will be someone with finance / business skills and the second will be an artist or individual with in-depth, professional knowledge and understanding of the contemporary art world. The third will have experience in public engagement and outreach practices. These appointments are made by the Prime Minister.

The Finance / Business Trustee will be expected to sit on the Audit Committee so should be able to demonstrate:

• Relevant financial / commercial skills;
• An understanding of financial management and how these impact upon corporate governance issues.
• Accountancy qualification is desirable, not essential.

Arts

• Significant experience as an artist, curator, writer, academic or critic, alongside an understanding of 20th and 21st century art relevant to the Museum’s important and extensive collections.
• An understanding of contemporary art commissioning and an ability to make an informed contribution to the work of the Art Commissions Committee.

Public Engagement/Learning

• Experience of building audiences at local, national or global levels.
• Knowledge or experience of working with public spaces, OR visitor experience, OR programming and engagement, OR the public presentation of the past.
• Ability to engage with the public in areas which may include academia, learning, events, theatre, broadcast, the wider arts or broader corporate sectors.

Additional information:

Number of meetings per annum/time commitment: 4 Board meetings per year plus Committee meetings where appropriate (i.e. x4 Audit Committee meetings per year for the Business/ Finance Trustee and minimum x2 Art Commissions Committee meetings per year for the Arts Trustee).

Daytime or evening meetings: Day time.
