Job Title: Chair / Treasurer / Trustee

Closing date: 2024-03-31

The Vagina Museum is the world’s first bricks and mortar museum dedicated to vaginas, vulvas & the gynaecological anatomy. The idea was born in 2017 after realising that there was a penis museum in Iceland, but no museum dedicated to vaginas and vulvas, anywhere in the world.

We are looking to strengthen our existing Board of Trustees and are particularly interested in hearing from people with expertise in the following areas:

  • Fundraising
  • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
  • Education or outreach in school-based settings
  • Marketing
  • Finance

We give all new recruits a three-month period as “board observers” so they can see how we work as a board, join in with activities and get a feel of what it means to be a trustee, prior to committing to becoming an official trustee.

The initial commitment we ask of all Trustees is a minimum two-year term. We expect Trustees to contribute actively to the Board by setting and maintaining strategic direction; setting overall policy; defining goals and setting targets; oversight of fundraising, evaluating performance; ensuring the charity’s effective and efficient administration and financial stability; ensuring compliance with the law; and promotion of the Museum.

The average time commitment is between five and eight hours per month, and the majority of responsibilities can be carried out remotely, although occasional in-person meetings in London are required and we encourage trustees to visit the museum and meet their fellow trustees and the wider team of staff and volunteers. Reasonable out of pocket expenses can be paid.
