Trustee vacancy – Historic Buildings and Places

Historic Buildings & Places is one of the National Amenity Societies, an independent charity with a mission to sustain, defend, and promote for the benefit of everyone, with all aspects of the built historic environment comprising buildings and places of all ages and types. We take a particular interest in everyday heritage.

We are looking to add four exciting, energetic and creative new Trustees to help us run the charity, supplementing and widening the skills, expertise, and experiences already present on the board with individuals who will bring fresh perspectives and skills in strategic and creative thinking; environmental sustainability; digital and physical engagement; and income generation.

In particular we would like to hear from people from Wales; individuals under 35; and those from underrepresented groups. Previous experience as a charitable Trustee is not required.

The Board of Trustees meets four times a year, normally for about 2-3 hours on a weekday afternoon. All meetings are hybrid (in person in London or on Zoom). Trustees receive papers in advance of Board meetings, and once a year, an AGM is held in person.

New Trustees will receive a full induction, including the opportunity to meet staff and a briefing on the responsibilities and duties of trustees. Support and mentoring will be provided, including a ‘buddy’ system with an existing Trustee. We can support expenses for Trustees wishing to join meetings in person.

Closing date for applications: 18 October 2023.

Interviews will be held online in October/November 2023.
