Trustee vacancy – Offa’s Dyke Association

Background

The existing ODA was founded in 1969; its trustees are currently applying to the Charity Commission to register a new CIO. When registered a special resolution will be put to a meeting of members to wind up the old charity and to transfer its assets to the new CIO.

This is an exciting opportunity to become a founding trustee of the new charity which has a clear focus to promote the conservation of Offa’s Dyke, research, education, interpretation and the general public’s understanding and enjoyment of the monument.

The existing charity operates the Offa’s Dyke Centre in Knighton, Powys. It is the only museum in the UK dedicated to Offa’s Dyke and the 8th century. The summer of 2023 will see the CIO re-launch of its new exhibition and implementation of its strategic plan.

The role

The CIO pays a firm of accountants to look after its management accounts and carry out monthly pay roll. Liaising with the accountant, the treasurer is responsible for oversight of the CIO’s financial policies, funds and systems; its investments; insurances; payment of invoices; presenting reports to the board of trustees and members’ meetings. Previous experience of a similar role or with professional financial qualifications is highly desirable.

Additional information

Number of meetings per annum/time commitment:

Three or four board meetings per annum in Knighton plus Annual General meeting of members. Meetings held in Knighton but trustees can attend via video link. Other time commitment as required but probably best described as a little and often. Travelling expenses to meetings are reimbursed.

Daytime or evening meetings: Board meetings usually weekend mornings but occasionally evenings.
