Trustee vacancy – Shakespeare Birthplace Trust

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust’s trading subsidiary company (SBT Trading Limited/SBTT Ltd) is recruiting 2-3 new Independent Directors to oversee its commercial activities.

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is the charity that cares for the world’s greatest Shakespeare heritage sites in Stratford-upon-Avon and promotes the enjoyment and understanding of his works, life and times at home and globally.

It is an exciting time to join the Trust as we reimagine our organisation and look boldly towards the future.  We seek candidates who can spark new ideas and bring innovative thinking to inform and guide the company as it delivers its agreed commercial strategy.

The position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity, for individuals with passion aligned to commercial operations (retail, catering, licencing), attractions and event management, legal, intellectual property (IP) rights, marketing, media and digital to contribute to the success and development of the trading subsidiary of one of the UK’s leading cultural and tourism organisations.

There is no requirement to be a Shakespeare expert (we have plenty of those); some interest or curiosity in his work, life and times could be of benefit.

We are particularly keen to welcome fresh creative insight onto our Board and to hear from those new to non-executive work.  Our recruitment is part of cyclical succession planning and there will be plenty of opportunity for mentoring with existing Directors.  Involvement also offers good scope for personal development, and provides opportunities for widening your networks which may include operating in a new sector. This is a voluntary position and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses can be paid.

The closing date for applications is 21 August 2023, and we intend to hold interviews on 12 and 13 September 2023.
