Our project

We have received a development grant of £368,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and we intend to apply for a delivery grant in excess of £3m in 18 months’ time to support our planned major restoration and improvement of Highbury (a £7m-£8m project). We must raise match funds for the latter of at least £550,000.

The fundraising role

We are looking for someone with all-round experience of raising funding and also in providing stewardship to a range of funders once funding is secured. We have an existing fundraising strategy which we can discuss and develop with you. We have existing networks of stakeholders and partners, including Birmingham Museums Trust and the University of Birmingham.

Are you up for the challenge? Would you like to work with us as a fundraising contractor?  We can introduce you to our Trust and its work, provide a Buddy from among the Trustees to support you in your training and personal development.

We are looking for a fundraiser who has a great track record, bags of enthusiasm for the cause and relevant qualifications and/or experience. We want a fundraiser who has at least five years’ experience in a target-driven or performance-related environment.

Fundraiser’s skills sought

You will have a track record of successful fundraising in the heritage sector. We expect you to have experience of fundraising from trusts and foundations as well as major donors. Experience of creating fundraising campaigns and fundraising from corporate donors is also desirable. The successful person will have exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal, excellent research skills, a strong attention to detail and extensive knowledge of the fundraising market.

Terms of engagement will include:

  • A contract for services with pay and time commitment agreed at the outset
  • Termination when the match funding has been raised in full or, at the latest, 18 months from the start date with provision for earlier termination for specified reasons
  • Generally home-based working but with occasions when attendance at Highbury, and possibly at other organisations’ events, will be required
  • Requirement for regular reports to our Trust Board
  • Other usual terms and conditions of engagement.
