Head of Conservation & Collections Care – Brooklands Museum

Job Title: Head of Conservation & Collections Care
Salary: £40,000
Hours: Full time
Term: Permanent
Location: Brooklands Museum, Surrey
Closing date: 12:00 am 5 December 2021

Brooklands Museum, in Surrey, cares for an extraordinary range of objects which tell the story of how innovation happened at the Brooklands site, in the fields of automotive and aviation engineering. Our collection ranges from aircraft to working vehicles to social history objects and archival material, set with a 32 acre site, including listed buildings and the world’s first purpose built motor racing circuit, which is a scheduled monument. The Museum is building on its successful emergence from the pandemic, including a new TV series and growing visitor numbers, and looking ahead to major developments for the collection and interpretation in the coming years.

This new role has been created to lead Brooklands Museum’s essential work on its Collection, ensuring its preservation for the future and so that the Museum’s future ambitions can be realised. Success will come from your knowledge of conservation and your ability to work with the other staff and volunteers who help care for the collection. You will define, communicate and lead pragmatic strategies for the long-term care of aircraft, vehicles and other elements of the Collection, ensuring our working collection can be shared and enjoyed and used to inspire the next generation of engineers and designers.

You will have a leadership role within the Museum and you will work collaboratively with other members of the Engagement and Heritage department and with other departments to help deliver the Museum’s vision, charitable aims and business objectives. Brooklands Museum is a fast paced and fun place to work. We care about the people who work and volunteer here and were proud to be a finalist for Surrey Employer of the Year in 2021.
