Hallmarks at Home – Mobilising museums for climate action

Climate change and climate action are talked about a lot, but what are they? What can each museum worker and each museum do when the challenge seems so big and so abstract? This workshop helps you explore the essentials of climate action, and is an opportunity to explore how you and your museums can play a part in addressing the challenge. This workshop has been developed as a partnership between AIM and the project Reimagining Museums for Climate Action, funded by the AHRC as part of its contribution to COP26, the UN Climate Change conference.

We’ll cover

  • Causes and impacts of climate change
  • How greenhouse gas emissions are measured Links between climate change, human rights and social justice (climate justice)
  • Climate adaptation and mitigation
  • What does the Paris Agreement have to do with museums?
  • Action for Climate Empowerment
  • A role for every museum, of every kind, and everywhere
  • Reimagining museums for climate action
  • An overview of the Mobilising Museums for Climate Action Toolbox, which will be provided to participants for free.
  • A chance to share what you’ve been doing, and to ask any questions you may have about climate change and climate action in relation to museums.

The workshop will be led by Henry McGhie, a museum consultant focussed on supporting museums to contribute to sustainable development agendas and a member of the ICOM Sustainability Working Group.

11am – 12.30pm Wednesday 21 September.
